Claire Jenkins plays a pivotal role in The Name of the Star. In the early morning of the 31st of August -at about twenty past four- Claire walks down Durward Street and accidentally finds the first body of the Ripper copy-cat attacks. After stumbling over the body, she feels an involvement in the case and is prompted to chase up the new Ripper. She looks over some CCTV footage she is sure has caught him, but is baffled by some sort of 'invisible' murderer. Claire is an early shift-nurse at the Royal London Hospital.

Interestingly, the Wexford Sixth Form College nurse who works at the Sanatorium also has the surname 'Jenkins'.
